Music

I share these songs with you, not because they’re all that good, but because God has used them to encourage and strengthen me; I have experienced tremendous joy and peace through singing HIS words back to him.  He is worthy, he is Love, and he is coming back!  Amen!

Note: MP3 versions of most of these songs can be downloaded via SoundCloud.

Nashville indie artist, Hetty, has reimagined and recorded two of my songs: Spiritual Warfare Lullaby and Follow Close (now available on iTunes).

Greater is he who is in me,
Than the one who’s in the world

There is no power in Heav’n or hell or earth
That can ever separate me
From the love of God our Father
From the love of God above

Like a Good Shepherd he leads me
Besides waters still and calm
In the presence of all of my enemies
Still the presence of God above

I will not fear the terror
Of the day or the night
For I know my Father is with me
In the dark he is my Light.

All the hosts of Heaven are shouting
At the victory he’s won
All of Hell continues to tremble
At the love of God above

(Psalm 63:6-8)   This song was our family theme song for 2009.  It’s based on Psalm 63:6-8.  God really used this Psalm to propel us into missions, asking us to Follow Close.  This version was recorded in 2010 in Phnom Penh in our friends’ backyard.  Here are the lyrics:

I lie awake thinking of you, Meditating on you through the night.  Chorus: I follow close behind you.  Your strong right hand holds. (repeat)  I sing for joy in the shadow of your protecting wings.  I think how much you’ve helped me, and because of this I’ll sing.  Chorus.  Holy, Holy, Holy.  I lie awake thinking of you, Meditating on you through the night.

Based on the prayers found in Psalm 13. For some devotional thoughts on this Psalm, click here.

LYRIC:
In your unfailing love
I will rejoice in you, Lord
For you have rescued me

I will sing and celebrate
I will remember all your wonderful deeds
I will sing and celebrate
For you’ve been good to me

When my soul grows dark
Full of sorrow each and every day
When I cannot see your heart
And I’ve nearly lost the way

When I’ve prayed for so long
And my enemies circle ‘round
When it seems all hope is gone
What I’ve lost will not be found

(Psalm 27:1-4)   One thing I ask of the Lord, the one thing I seek the most, Is to live in the house of the Lord.  Delighting in the Lord’s perfections, Delighting in the presence of the Lord.  / The Lord is my light and my salvation, The Lord is my light.  Though a mighty army surrounds me,  My heart will know no fear.  I’ll be resting in the Lord’s protection,  Resting in the presence of the Lord. / I’ll follow wherever you lead, I’ll follow wherever you lead.  Where you send I will go, I will go.  To the ends of the earth, or down the street, Where you send I will go, I will go.

(Matthew 5, the Beatitudes) Blessed are the ones in need. Those who know that all good comes from Him. Blessed are the ones in need, For they will receive the kingdom of heav’n. Blessed are the ones who mourn. Blessed are the ones who cry to God. Blessed are the ones who mourn, For they will be comforted by God. For they will be comforted by our King. Blessed are the meek ones. Blessed are the humble before God. Blessed are the meek ones, For they will inherit the earth. Blessed are the hungry. Blessed are the ones who thirst for Him. Blessed are the hungry, For they will be satisfied by God. Blessed are the merciful, Those who are compassionate. Blessed are the merciful, For they will be shown the mercy of God, For they will be shown the mercy of the King. Blessed are the pure in heart. Blessed are the ones washed by the Son. Blessed are the pure in heart, For they will see the face of God, For they will see the face of our King. Blessed are the peacemakers. Blessed are the ones who seek shalom. Blessed are the peacemakers, For they will be called the sons of God, For they will be called the daughters of the King. Blessed are the wounded ones. Blessed are the persecuted ones. Blessed are the wounded ones, For theirs will be the kingdom of heav’n. For theirs will be the kingdom of our God. You call your people to follow you, As You, O God, make all things new. Oh Lord our God, make all things new.

(Revelation 4)  To come before the throne of God is to be amazed, to be astounded.  To see his love, and to see his face, is to be amazed, to be astounded. /I stand and worship the King of Kings, I kneel and weep at my Saviors feet.  I humble myself before the Lord of all, bowing before the throne of God. / We’ll come before the throne of God, we’ll be amazed, we’ll be astounded.  We’ll see his love, and we’ll see his face, we’ll be amazed, we’ll be astounded. / We’ll stand and worship the King of Kings.  We’ll kneel and weep, at our Saviors feet.  We’ll humble ourselves before the Lord of all, bowing before the throne of God.

(Matthew 6:19-34)  Show me how to live in your Kingdom, teach me how to live near the cross.  Show me how to live in forever, all my gain I throw down at your cross. / Jesus you are King of forever, Jesus you are King of my heart.  Jesus you’re my only treasure, I’ll exalt your name whatever the cost. / Chorus: Men of the cross, daughters of love, Unite in one passion, to live all for One. / We will be your people forever, we will be a church of the King.  We’ll seek you as our only treasure, as your people we will always sing.

I’ve sung a thousand songs to you, but you ask for it all, you ask for it all. /  Shine on us, show your face, echoes of mercy and thunderous grace.  I seek your face and not just your hands, I’m thirsty, Oh Jesus, I’m thirsty. / Before your glorious throne I’ll sing, bowing before you, giving everything. / Shine on us, show your face, unending mercy and amazing grace.  I seek your face and not just your hands, I’m thirsty, Oh Jesus, I’m thirsty.
